## la Caixa Doctoral INPhINIT Fellowships 20202020-02-04

The doctoral fellowship programme INPhINIT “la Caixa” is devoted to attracting talented Early-Stage Researchers-of any nationality-who wish to pursue doctoral studies in Spanish or Portuguese territory. Sponsored by ”la Caixa” Foundation, it is aimed at supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain and Portugal by recruiting outstanding international students and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

The doctoral INPhINIT fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for training on transferrable skills (through the collaboration of leading entities such as Vitae and Oxentia), temporary stays in industry, incentives upon completion of the thesis, among other elements that make these fellowships some of the most attractive and complete in Europe.

At CAMGSD, the INPhINIT Programme 2020 positions are offered in the following topics:

•  JB*-triples and Tits-Kantor-Koecher Lie algebras
• General Toeplitz Operators and Riemann-Hilbert Problems
• Symplectic and Related Geometries
• String Theory and Quantization
• Mathematical Relativity
• Calculus of Variations and Applications to the Mechanics of Materials
• Mirror symmetry for branes in the Hitchin system

Deadline for the applications: February 4, 2020

More detailed information about the proposed research topics can be found choosing country (Portugal) and research center (CAMGSD) at https://hosts.lacaixafellowships.org/finder

## Particle Systems and PDEs VIII2019-12-02 — 2019-12-06

Anfiteatro Abreu Faro, Instituto Superior Técnico, Av. Rovisco Pais, Lisboa

The idea of the meeting is to get together researchers from two different areas of mathematics, namely Particle Systems and Partial Differential Equations, and to present recent scientific results in both areas.

We expect the participation of a vast audience, including young researchers and PhD students, and we intend to present and exploit the interdisciplinary nature of mathematics as well as its applications in various areas.

## Higher Structures and Applications mini-meeting2019-11-05 — 2019-11-06

@ Departamento de Matemática, Instituto Superior Técnico, Campus da Alameda

In this 2-day mini-meeting, members of the FCT-funded project Higher Structures and Applications (PTDC/MAT-PUR/31089/2017) will be explaining aspects of their research to each other and to anyone else interested, in short presentations with plenty of room for discussion.

## Mathematics doctoral defense2019-10-28

Nguyen Bin, supervised by Margarida Maria Nunes da Silva Rendeiro Marques Mendes Lopes (adviser), defended his thesis Surfaces of General Type with non-biratonial Canonical Map, at Anfiteatro Pa3, Pavilhão de Matemática, Instituto Superior Técnico, and was awarded a doctoral degree in Mathematics.

## Mathematics doctoral defense2019-10-21

Davide Polini, supervised by Gabriel Czerwionka Lopes Cardoso (adviser), defended his thesis Classifying and Counting $N=2$ BPS Black Holes in an STU Model, at Anfiteatro Pa3, Pavilhão de Matemática, Instituto Superior Técnico, and was awarded a doctoral degree in Mathematics.

## IberiCOS 2020 — 15th Iberian Cosmology Meeting2020-04-06 — 2020-04-08

Departamento de Física, Universidade de Coimbra

The 2020 edition of the Iberian Cosmology Meeting (IberiCOS 2020) will be held at the University of Coimbra. This series of meetings is aimed at encouraging the interaction and collaboration between researchers working in Cosmology and related areas in Portugal and Spain. Researchers working in other countries are also most welcome.

These meetings are designed to encourage the presentation of work in progress. In this same spirit, the meetings will not be restricted to a single focused topic, but are open to cosmologists in the broadest sense, from mathematical cosmology and theoretical particle physics to observational astrophysics. Stimulating interactions between theorists and observers is also a particular concern of the organisers.
