Workskop on Operator Theory, Complex Analysis, and Applications 2016 / WOTCA 2016

The Workskop on Operator Theory, Complex Analysis, and Applications 2016 / WOTCA 2016 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, on 21-24 June 2016.

It aims to bring together researchers working in Operator Theory, Complex Analysis, and their applications, and to create an opportunity to highlight the current state of the art in these fields, present open problems and engage in fruitful discussions. Connections with Linear Algebra will also be emphasized.

This meeting follows the line of four previous workshops, WOTCA 2010, WOTCA 2012, 2-Day OTCA 2013, WOTCA 2014.

Calculus of Variations and its Applications on the occasion of Luísa Mascarenhas’ 65th birthday

The aim of the workshop is both to bring together experts on Calculus of Variations and its applications, promoting the exchange of ideas and attracting young scientists to the field, and also to honor Professor Luísa Mascarenhas, recently retired, for her contribution to Science.

The workshop will take place at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Campus de Caparica, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and will count with several talks by eminent researchers covering a wide range of methods to treat problems in Engineering, Mechanics and Life Sciences. Several of the invited speakers have directly collaborated with Professor Luísa Mascarenhas.

UT Austin | Portugal CoLab Program: Autumn School in Nonlinear Science

The school aims at bringing together prominent researchers, known for their expertise in modeling, analysis and simulation of nonlinear phenomena, and graduate and post-graduate students from around the world for five days of research training.  The school comprises an intensive program of week-long short courses complemented by tutorial sessions run by post-graduate students. It will focus on non-local or nonlinear partial differential equations with applications ranging from phase transitions and free boundary problems to porous media flows and contaminant transport in subsurface environments.

We expect to be able to fund the local expenses of up to 25 students

Trends in Non-Linear Analysis 2015

The aim of this workshop is to bring together leading experts and young researchers in the fields of mathematics and engineering to discuss recent developments in applications to material science and biology.

The goal is to bridge together analytical techniques and computational methods to shed new light on cutting edge research topics.

Conference on Algebraic Surfaces on the occasion of Margarida Mendes Lopes 60th birthday

This conference will address some recent developments on the classification of algebraic surfaces and will be an occasion to celebrate the 60th birthday of Margarida Mendes Lopes, whose contribution to the field and to the consolidation of the existing Portuguese algebraic geometry community has had a significant impact.

XXIst Oporto Meeting on Geometry, Topology and Physics

The XXIst Oporto Meeting on Geometry, Topology and Physics will take place at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal, from 4th to 7th February, 2015, with main topic Applications of Topology.

As in previous years, the meeting is focussed on minicourses given by the main speakers, supplemented by invited and contributed talks. Main speakers: Ulrich Bauer (IST Austria), Michael Farber (Queen Mary, University of London), Dmitry Feichtner-Kozlov (Universität Bremen) and Piotr Sulkowski (University of Warsaw and California Institute of Technology).

Sessions take place in Amphithetre Ea1 of the North Tower (February 4 to 6) and in Amphithetre Va3 of the Civil Engineering Building on February 7, both in the Alameda campus of IST.
