Trends in Operator Theory and its Applications: A Workshop for Young Researchers

MapInstituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa

TOTA2021 is a hybrid conference, with both online and in-person talks, taking place at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, on June 25, 2021. It will be held alongside and in coordination with WOTCA 2021.

Its main goals are to foster contact between leading mathematicians and younger researchers and to create a network of research support with ties for active collaborations.

TOTA 2021 welcomes talks by graduate students and young researchers on Operator Theory and related topics.

The meeting is supported by CAMGSD/Center for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Dynamical Systems of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, through project UID/MAT/04459/2020 and by the National Science Foundation Conference Award DMS-1956360.

Workshop on Operator Theory, Complex Analysis, and Applications 2021 - WOTCA 2021

MapInstituto Superior Técnico - University of Lisbon

This meeting aims to bring together researchers working in Operator Theory, Complex Analysis, and their applications, in particular Mathematical Physics, and to create an opportunity to highlight the current state of the art in these fields, to present open problems and to promote  collaborative discussions.

The meeting follows the line of six previous workshops, WOTCA 2010WOTCA 20122-Day OTCA 2013WOTCA 2014WOTCA 2016WOTCA 2017 and WOTCA 2018. The main difference with respect to the previous WOTCA meetings will be that we will have online talks, which we expect to be the norm, but we plan to conjugate them with some in-person talks.

The meeting is supported by CAMGSD/Center for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Dynamical Systems of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, through project UID/MAT/04459/2020.

Organizadoras: Sílvia Barbeiro (CMUC, FCTUC), Ana Cristina Casimiro (CMA, FCT NOVA), Margarida Mendes Lopes (CAMGSD, IST UL)

The Iberian Strings 2021 meeting

The Iberian Strings 2021 meeting is the twelfth meeting of the Iberian Strings series. These meetings bring together a large part of the string theory community of Spain and Portugal with the aim of discussing and sharing recent advances in the field of strings and branes. However, all string theorists working elsewhere too are highly welcome to participate in the meeting.

Organizers: Gabriel Lopes Cardoso, Suresh Nampuri.

Working Groups for Women in Operator Theory and Trends in Operator Theory Workshop

The meeting has been cancelled.

This workshop aims on the one hand at presenting and discussing recent research trends and open problems in operator theory and, on the other hand, at building a network focused on active collaborative research, geared to attract female mathematicians to operator theory and related areas. It will include a succinct overview of state-of-the-art techniques and recent results in operator theory and its applications; intensive group problem-solving sessions with each working group led by 1-2 project leaders and involving graduate students/postdocs, early career researchers, and more experienced researchers to discuss possible strategies and solutions to open problems; structured conversations focused on career and research advancement and teaching pedagogy; and ample social periods for informal discussions.

Partially funded by  FCT (Portugal) and CAMGSD through project UIDB/04459/2020 and by NSF-HRD 1500481 - AWM ADVANCE grant and the NSF Award DMS-1956360.

Organizers:  Francesca Arici (Leiden University), Fernanda Botelho (University of Memphis),  Cristina Câmara (CAMGSD/Instituto Superior Técnico), Brittney Miller (Coe College).

Intensive Week PDEs on the WEB

The intensive week of PDEs is a joint initiative of some research groups in Italy (Turin and Rome) and Portugal (Lisbon), which allows to continue the exchange of ideas within the PDE community in this strange period, where scientific travels have stopped.

Each day there will be a session of the mini-course and a talk given by one of the participants. Then in the remaining time people would be able to organize in small groups in order to discuss research (ongoing or new). The meeting aims to intensify the existing collaborations and to stimulate interactions between participants.

IberiCOS 2020 — 15th Iberian Cosmology Meeting

MapDepartamento de Física, Universidade de Coimbra

The meeting has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 edition of the Iberian Cosmology Meeting (IberiCOS 2020) will be held at the University of Coimbra. This series of meetings is aimed at encouraging the interaction and collaboration between researchers working in Cosmology and related areas in Portugal and Spain. Researchers working in other countries are also most welcome.

These meetings are designed to encourage the presentation of work in progress. In this same spirit, the meetings will not be restricted to a single focused topic, but are open to cosmologists in the broadest sense, from mathematical cosmology and theoretical particle physics to observational astrophysics. Stimulating interactions between theorists and observers is also a particular concern of the organisers.

Particle Systems and PDEs VIII

MapAnfiteatro Abreu Faro, Instituto Superior Técnico, Av. Rovisco Pais, Lisboa

The idea of the meeting is to get together researchers from two different areas of mathematics, namely Particle Systems and Partial Differential Equations, and to present recent scientific results in both areas.

We expect the participation of a vast audience, including young researchers and PhD students, and we intend to present and exploit the interdisciplinary nature of mathematics as well as its applications in various areas.
